Getting reinbursed for IBCLC home visit

The Affordable Care Act of 2012 requires most health insurance companies to cover “breastfeeding support, supplies and counseling” in conjunction with each birth. This means that most insurance companies SHOULD cover a home visit from an IBCLC.

Introducing the Superbill!

Sadly, insurance companies make it difficult for reimbursement. Consequently, when we visit you in your home for a lactation visit, we can't just take your insurance information and charge your insurance. You have to submit a receipt/superbill for reimbursement from our services. You simply fill out the form, call your insurance company and submit the form to your insurance for lactation reimbursement. Furthermore, some insurance companies even require a referral from a pediatrician or OB/GYN. Home visits from an IBCLC are also eligible for Health Savings (HSA) expenses. Please call your insurance company to find out more. Your lactation consultant will provide you with the superbill after your appointment.
